Citizen’s Program Gets Government Support06-Sep-2011 The NSW Government has provided important support and is assisting with a targeted recruitment campaign for the BBA NSW Citizen’s Program. “One of the biggest challenges we have is recruiting young men from greater western Sydney” Horatio O’Shea Program Manager. The Best Buddies Citizen’s Program has been operating since November 2012 and is well on its way to delivering its 12 month outcomes. The program matches an adult who has an intellectual disability in a one to one friendship with a person who does not have a disability. Best Buddies then asks the Buddy Pair to meet on a regular basis and simply hang out. Friendships are matched on gender, proximity, likes and interests. So whether you like going to the football, or going out to eat, or taking the dog for a walk Best Buddies have people waiting to start a friendship. We believe that there are many males in Greater Western Sydney ready and willing to volunteer with Best Buddies and with the support from the NSW Government we will hopefully reach those willing to start a new friendship. |
