Marrickville Chapter Visit Sydney Tower & Aquarium

Five pairs of students are involved in Best Buddies  at Marrickville High School.  We've got our hands on a transcript of a School Assembly Speech that Chapter President Moana gave recently about the day...

"At Best Buddies we are paired up with a student from the support unit and become friends. We make a point of getting in touch with one another once a fortnight. At least once a month we  meet to spend an afternoon together.

"This term Best Buddies had a day out as a group with Ms McNamara & Ms Michael and Natalie Bishop from the Best Buddies Organisation.

"We all spent most of term 2 fundraising money by selling chocolates around the school and the community. We raised a few hundred dollars to spend on a day out…

"Friday 6^th August we all caught the train to Sydney Tower. We rode on a virtual reality ride where the seats shook and rattled as we rode through the screening of scenes form Australia.

"Then we went up to the Observation deck where we saw the entire Sydney City in 360 degree views! It was quite high up and we found Marrickville using binoculars but couldn’t quite see our school.

"The Best Buddies team then enjoyed a free lunch at the Myer Foodcourt on Pitt Street. We were given 45 mins free-time for lunch and shopping. The girls – Monana and Gabi disappeared into the make up section, whereas the boys checked out the latest new shoes at Hype.

"A monorail ride later we went down with the fish and sharks at Sydney Aquarium! Photography down here was certainly a challenge! But the experience was fantastic!

"A great day for all and one that was most definitely deserved! We are hoping for a mini camping trip next……

"So if you are interested in helping change lives and becoming friends with a new peer please talk to any of us Best Buddies or our Best Buddies teachers Ms McNamara and Ms Michael."
