Gymea Bay hosts BBA cricket match
Representatives of BBA Board Member Michael Bartel's Lords Taverners side, the Gymea Bay Cricket Club and individuals who were just up for a game all took part in a fun cricket day on 9th January. Teams were comprised of people with intellectual disability and people without intellectual disability. Our man Michael Bartels (pictured right with Mark Trevaskis)...
"We met for a 9.30am start. It looked like it was going to be a HOT one and neither the day OR the teams disappointed. I was the Captain of my team. The only good thing to happen (as Captain) was that I won the toss! Splitting teams half with ID and half without it made for an interesting day blending the two together but everyone seemed to gel and played well together as a team. But the heat was starting to take its toll with at least one participant needing to sit down out of the sun and take some cold drinks in!"
"We had a break and we started the second game and the action really heated up on the field. This time I struck the very in-form Mark Trevaskis. He hit me for three 4s and there was something wrong (apart from being hit all over the field!) I bowled again and my back went and I had to go off the field."
"There was a BBQ and a raffle with first prize a TV kindly donated by Craig Hewittt by Moonlighting. The winner was President Alan Monahan."
It cost $10 to take part in the cricket and proceeds went to Best Buddies and the Lord Taverners side. Over $500 was raised on the day.
Our thanks to the Gymea Bay Cricket Club (including the bar staff) for hosting and participating and to the Lord Taveners side. Big thanks to Marcus from Design Stratey who took photographs on the day. And well done to everyone who came to have a hit for the first time!
