Best Buddies Fun In The Sun By Scoring Runs!!
Another year another success!! That would be the best way to sum up this year’s social inclusion cricket day. There was an increase in participants this year, with around 80 people attending and participating in the day, representing, Gymea Bay Cricket Club, The Lord Taverns’ Cricket Team, Sylvanvale Foundation, Best Buddies Australia, as well as members of the local community. The local paper ‘The Leader’ came down and wrote a story in support of the day and to help us promote the Best Buddies Citizens Program starting in the St George and Sutherland Shire. Luckily the weather was on our side this year which allowed us to play three great games of cricket. The standard at times was fierce and competitive but it was equally nice to see everyone have a go. It was clear my skills are not on the pitch!!
We recognise that this day would not have occurred nor have been the success it was without two main supporters Gymea Bay Cricket Club and The Lord Taverner’s Cricket Team. Too Gymea Cricket Club we say thank you for your hospitality, support and effort in organising the day. Too Lord Taverner’s cricket team, your support of the day is the personification of social inclusion. Michael Bartels a Best Buddy Board Member with an intellectual disability said “The best thing about days like today, is that no one really cares if you have a disability or not, it’s about having a go and having a great time.”
“Being our second hit up, we’ve learnt some valuable lessons and have great plans for next year’s event. I expect that the while the competition will only get stronger, the real concept of social inclusion will become more of a reality.” Best Buddies Australia would like to thank everyone for coming down and supporting the event and look forward to a bigger and better event next year!!
