We would like to welcome the latest school to join Best Buddies Australia's High School Program - Fairvale High School.
On Friday 21st August the first wave of enthusiastic volunteers underwent training and had the opportunity to meet other volunteers (and their potential buddy?!) over a morning tea. 14 students and several teaching staff attended over the course of the morning.
The training sessions aimed to familiarise buddies and peer buddies with Best Buddies, what it is about, what is involved and some of the things that should be considered when arranging to meet up with their buddy. Peer buddies were given the opportunity to interview Michael Bartels (Board Member of Council for Intellectual Disability; Board Member of Best Buddies and a Don't Dis My Ability Ambassador) as well as the chance to act out potential scenarios.
The team led by new Chapter President Kimberly, Vice Chapter President Angelo, Deputy Principal Mr Groth and Head of Special Education Mr Mousa are now looking to identify suitable buddy pair matches from within the volunteer group.Stay tuned for more news over coming weeks and months!
