I need to be totally honest. When I was approached by Chris Browns management asking if he could meet some of our Buddies, I had to Google him to find out who he was.
Try it. There's so much information out there on Chris Brown.
A brief survey tells the average reader that he probably works hard, just look at his tour schedule. You will note the man can dance. He, like most young men, is passionate and lives a life most of us will not experience.
So when I spoke to our Best Buddies about going bowling with Chris Brown, it's no surprise that I was overwhelmed by the positive response. So much so that I decided that seeing Chris Brown was a must.
So what happened;
Best Buddies and 10 of the young people involved in our program met Chris Brown at Kingpin Bowling at Darling Harbour on Easter Sunday night.
There was great anticipation as Chris and his management team came in the back entrance. We pretty much got straight into things, games started and that weird uneasiness that occurs when strangers meet lingered for a brief time.
There was a moment, when everyone was not sure exactly what to do, however it was quickly broken by Chris who simply introduced himself to one of the Buddies and started a normal, real conversation.
It was great. Buddies began to relax and soon everyone was having a great time. We were bowling, having fun (which is what Best Buddies does) and we happened to be hanging out with an international R'n'B star.
Now there are some things you need to know about Chris Brown. Firstly, he's 21. He's strong, tall and annimated. He's competative. In fact, he's like just about every other 21 year old guy world wide. He's also a really good bowler. Pins fell every time Chris threw down a ball. Strike after strike. He was good, really good.
The night continued and after signing autographs, having his picture taken and chatting with everyone who came, I noticed that Chris finally relaxed. I caught a glimps of Chris, checking out the TV which was playing music clips all night. He was smiling and having a great time. It was really nice to see this. Chris was a real person.
Chris said his goodbyes after a few games and just as he entered, slipped out the back with his crew.
What a great night. Fun and easy. No problems and a great way to spend time with friends.
Having met Chris Brown, albeit for a short time, I like him, and I wish him the best.
Thanks Chris, Britney, Josh, Tina, Billy, Kingpin and everyone who helped put together the night.
