Best Buddies wins Disability Inclusiveness Award
Oh What a Night!
Best Buddies Australia won the 2009 City of Sydney Business Award for Disability Inclusiveness on 20th October.
As we all know, Best Buddies is all about being inclusive. In fact we put the 'Social' in Social Inclusion, however last night we were recognised by our peers, and the City of Sydney for the great work we do.
Best Buddies attended the Awards night with Chairman Andrew Buchanan, Board Members, Lauren, Geoff and Michael, Fairvale Chapter President Kimberly Todd and Buddy Director Hannah Croaker. Marcus Gibbs from Design Strategy and Deborah Hutton (Best Buddies Ambassador) also joined Natalie and Mark for a wonderful evening.
The award was the second announcement for the night and the entire table was on edge. Hoping, but well aware that sometimes people just don't understand intellectual disability and what we do.... we waited then... jumped up and celebrated the win!
Hannah and Michael accepted the award on our behalf.
Hannah was just great, thanking everyone and captivating the audience. She also, in her now famous way, managed to make us not only laugh but appreciate the wonderful opportuniites that exist when you have a friend. Hannah, also managed to thank Deborah for us.
Michael followed up, talking about what Best Buddies does and thanking everyone as well.
Thanks for your help Hannah and Michael.
Finally, we all had a great opportunity to meet the locals shaking hands with David Koch, meeting the Lord Mayor Clover Moore and saying hello to all the other winners.
Well done Best Buddies and keep up the great work.
