Angelo and Stephanos, both students at Fairvale High School, have been matched in a one to one friendship through the Best Buddies Australia program through their school. Matched in late 2009, approximately 10 months on, and with the support of both sets of their parents, they have the roots of a good friendship.
These are roots laid down by regular contact, whether that be attending Best Buddies events such as the 'Alice In Wonderland Movie Night', the cake stall that his Chapter arranged at school, or one of the many 'games lunches' where buddy pairs meet to play Ludo, Connect 4 etc.
Most importantly, Angelo and Stephanos have made time for each other outside of the group activities as well, with a trip to the cinema to see 'Clash Of The Titans', a meal at a restaurant and a number of lunches together at school. They have been supported hugely by their parents who have met each other - usually transporting them to events!
Angelo who is in the mainstream school, says of Stephanos, who is in the support unit: "His favourite thing is Starwars - he loves Starwars. He is fun, caring and funny! Stephanos is always fun to be around!" Many Teaching staff and other Best Buddies members have commented that they have seem to have a bond and just seem to 'click' as people.
Of his experience with Best Buddies so far, Angelo says: 'It has been great. I understand more about people, how they have different perspectives. Most people seem to be trying to get things done all the time...Stephanos doesn't think about that; he is free! I feel that I understand more about my own family now too by knowing Stephanos."
Well done Angelo and Stephanos, keep up the good work...will your friendship win our Buddy Pair Of The Year 2010 award....?
